Revealed: Six in ten Brits are planning at least three holidays in 2024, with budgets as high as £10,000 per getaway

Brits are making up for lost time, with one in six (59 per cent) planning at least three holidays this year, according to a survey.

The study revealed that they’re not going to do it on the cheap, either, with one in three (33 per cent), planning on spending at least £3,000 per getaway.

Meanwhile, 11 per cent admitted their budget is as high as £5,000 to £9,999, and several (three per cent) confessed their budget is over £10,000.

The research, a survey of 700 adults by Luxury Escapes that aimed to explore the nation’s travel indulgences, found that 69 per cent of Brits said they will spend at least the same amount if not more money on international holidays in 2024 than 2023.

As many as 65 per cent are hoping to treat themselves to a room upgrade, closely followed by a flight upgrade (57 per cent) and fine dining (51 per cent).

Accommodation and location are equally important, with 66 per cent setting their sights on five-star hotel resorts, compared to just 29 per cent who said they would be happy with a three-star or four-star hotel.

Other common desires include seeing one of the seven natural wonders of the world (48 per cent) and jetting off on a bucket-list holiday (42 per cent), while 28 per cent of Brits are hoping to go scuba diving or snorkelling.

International holidays are the most popular, with nearly all respondents (92 per cent) revealing they have plans to travel overseas in 2024.

Thailand and the Maldives share top spot for Brits’ all-time favourite holiday destination, while Greece was ranked as most desirable for 2024 (37 per cent), followed by Italy (24 per cent) and Portugal (10 per cent).

Sightseeing in the UK isn’t far behind, with 80 per cent of Brits saying they have booked or plan to book a staycation this coming year.

Breaks in London (30 per cent), Edinburgh (17 per cent) and the Scottish Highlands (13 per cent) were cited as the most sought-after destinations.

The cost of flights has been ranked as the most important factor when planning a holiday (46 per cent), closely followed by accommodation – with 30 per cent disclosing they book trips between six to 12 months in advance as a preventative measure.

Adam Schwab, Global CEO of Luxury Escapes, said: ‘Our research has shown how much Brits value the feeling of luxury and holidays providing an excuse to indulge in things they wouldn’t usually – whether that be a room upgrade, a bucket-list scuba diving excursion, or turning left on the plane.’
