REVEALED: The cheapest city breaks in Europe for a holiday this Easter

Thinking about booking a last-minute city break on a budget this Easter?

If so, you might assume your best bet is to grab the Eurostar to Paris, a simple train ride away.

But you’d be wrong – there are plenty of options across Europe that could see you get more bang for your buck.

With Paris the most expensive short-haul city break destination you could choose this Easter, according to Which?, there are far better alternatives you could try.

A week’s holiday in Paris, including flights and accommodation, could set you back an average of £1,310 per person.

According to Which? Travel’s price check of more than 3,000 package holidays, plenty of other short-haul city breaks won’t break the bank.

Here’s a rundown of the cheapest city breaks in Europe for a holiday this Easter…

Marmaris, Turkey

Marmaris in Turkey boasts sunshine, as well as reasonable costs

Coming in first place is Marmaris in Turkey.

For an average of just £594 per person, you could spend a week in Marmaris, on the Turkish Riviera, enjoying nine hours of sunshine a day and highs of 20°C – six degrees warmer than Paris in April.

Which? found an all-inclusive stay at the four-star, beachfront Emre Beach & Emre Hotel, with a private pier and outdoor heated pools for £578pp including flights from Edinburgh.

It’s a little more expensive if you’re flying from London, at £664pp, or Manchester, at £655pp – but those prices are still a bargain.

Krakow, Poland

Krakow in Poland takes the number two spot on the ranking of cheap breaks

If you’re less concerned about chasing the sun, heading to Eastern Europe could help to keep the costs down for your next getaway.

At £628pp on average, Krakow was the second-cheapest destination in the data.

It’s Which? Travel readers’ favourite city break destination, and by April temperatures will have lifted to a comfortable 14°C.

Which? found stays in the city centre for under £670pp – such as a holiday at the four-star Golden Tulip Hotel in the city centre for £655pp, with breakfast included (flying from Manchester Airport).

Albufeira, Portugal

Head to Albufeira for sunshine, perfect beaches and clear waters

For less than half the price of a Paris getaway, you could head to the whitewashed coastal city of Albufeira, in Portugal’s southerly Algarve region.

Here, the average cost of a holiday came to £638pp in the research.

The region was crowned the world’s best value destination by the Post Office Travel Money report in 2025, so your pound will stretch further while you’re there, with reasonably priced meals out and drinks.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain

Playa de Las Canteras in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, perfect for sunshine

There were more bargain suntraps to be found in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

It’s home to two of the Which? secret inspector’s top hotels in Gran Canaria. The first is the stylish Santa Catalina, highlighted as best historic hotel.

The second is the Boutique Hotel Cordial Plaza de Mayor Santa Ana, which was rated as the best value hotel in the region.

Benidorm, Spain

Benidorm in Spain is a favourite among Brits for a reason, and has cheap costs

Benidorm in Spain also joined the list, a popular spot for Brits that certainly won’t break the bank.

The Spanish holiday resort, long famed for its 24-hour party scene, offers breaks from just £682pp.

Benidorm is often packed with sun-seeking Brits enjoying the many sandy beaches, vibrant nightlife and entertainment.

Prague, Czech Republic

With cobblestones, bridges, palaces, parks and countless attractions, Prague is perfect for those seeking old-fashioned charm.

It boasts impressive architecture, amazing views and plenty of fabulous monuments.

Budapest, Hungary

The famous Szechenyi Chain Bridge is a symbol of Budapest, Hungary

Next up is Budapest in Hungary, a popular getaway destination at this time of year.

Budapest offers highs of 18°C, which are more than comfortable for visiting the city’s famed thermal baths.

Stick to the Pest side of the river for cheaper accommodation, if you don’t mind staying somewhere a little livelier than the quiet hills of Buda.

Porto, Portugal

Porto city and the Douro river with traditional boats and port wine barrels

Which? Travel members’ favourite Portuguese city, Porto, also appeared among the top cheapest Easter breaks.

On the bank of the Douro River, Porto’s old town has hilly cobbled streets, blue-tiled buildings and charming churches.

Be sure to taste some Port if you’re paying the city a visit.

Milan

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan is the perfect place to shop and stroll

After Paris, research showed Rome and Venice were the priciest destinations to visit this Easter.

Instead, if you love Italy, head for Milan. It was the cheapest Italian destination city in the research, and among the top 10 cheapest destinations – likely due to the fact that the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, this year hosted in Milan, will have concluded by mid-March.

Just watch out for the new tourist tax of €9.50 (£8.30) per person per night if you’re staying within 30km of an Olympic venue.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik’s old town with a cathedral and red roofs are well worth a visit

Rounding out the top 10 is Dubrovnik in Croatia, where a break will set you back £796pp.

Dubrovnik attracts hordes of tourists with its medieval architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage gem.

It’s even been dubbed the ‘California of Europe’ by American tourists.
