Ring camera captures hilarious moment bear spooks man relaxing on his sun lounger

Look who went down to the woods today! Ring camera captures hilarious moment a bear spooks North Carolina man relaxing on his sun loungerA man in North Carolina was shocked when a black bear appeared before himAfter an encounter in which the two stared at each other, the bear scurried off

This is the hilarious moment a black bear wandered through a man’s backyard in North Carolina, spooking him as he lay relaxing on a lounge chair.

David Oppenheimer was lying down outside his home in Ashville in the Blue Ridge Mountains on Tuesday evening when he heard his doorbell alarm go off and turned to see a bear just feet in front of him.

‘I looked behind me and didn’t see anything,’ Oppenheimer told CNN, ‘But about a minute later, the bear came along and was practically in front of me.’

The two stare into each other’s eyes for a few seconds, seemingly equally startled, before the bear clambers off in the direction from which it came.

David Oppenheimer was relaxing on his porch on Tuesday evening when a black bear suddenly appeared, leaving him paralyzed with fear

‘My eyeballs certainly got a stretch,’ Oppenheimer said.

He said bears are known to roam the area and that generally cause no harm.

‘The bears here are very peaceful,’ he told CNN. ‘This one just caught me off guard.’

Although Oppenheimer looked stunned, the bear is no stranger to his front porch. Oppenheimer has captured a variety of footage of bears passing through his car port where the camera and sun lounger is set up.

With other cameras he also recorded racoons clambering over his house and taking food from his bird feeders.

There are estimated to be around 23,000 black bears in North Carolina – the largest population besides a handful of other states including Alaska, Maine, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Wisconsin.

As North Carolina’s human and bear populations increase so too are interactions, but more often than not they are harmless.

They tend to be shy towards humans, and according to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, there has never been an unprovoked bear attack in the state.

Nonetheless it advises that caution is taken in dealing with black bears, most notably by not leaving trash out and avoiding feeding them.

Black bears are also known to be attracted to residual grease on barbecues so cleaning grills thoroughly is also recommended.
