Social media user says travelers should ‘blast’ AC on passengers who recline seat too far back

A social media user has ignited another fierce airplane etiquette debate after he suggested travelers should ‘blast’ the air conditioner on passengers who recline their seat too far back.

The TikToker, who goes by @TheLKShow on the app, launched a major discussion after he posted a video complaining about people who lean their seat back on a flight.

He said it often ‘leaves him no room,’ but that he came up with a solution – he turns on the air vent above his seat and adjusts it so it’s hitting their head – but his idea sparked a massive debate between viewers.

‘Unethical life hack: When you are on a flight and the person in front of you reclines their seat all the way back and leaves you no room, turn on the air con above you on full blast and point it at the top of their head,’ he wrote in the video, which has now been viewed more than 1.9 million times.

Some people were all for the TikToker’s idea and were quick to praise him, while others were not a fan of it.

‘Recliner seats are there to recline,’ one person pointed out.

‘If my seat reclines… I’m reclining all the way back. Every time,’ someone else said.

‘People who complain about the seats that recline are the worst kind of people,’ a different user added.

A fourth comment read, ‘Yeah, I’m not sitting upright for my 10-hour flight lmao the seat reclines for a reason.’

‘Those tickets cost a lot of money, gonna do what I want,’ agreed another person.

‘Note to self: Bring beanie on board to wear in case people point their AC onto my head,’ joked someone else.

Another user wrote: ‘You aren’t gaining extra room by reclining, you’re taking away the room of the person behind you.’

‘Wish I had done this,’ replied someone else. ‘The guy just told me that the seats move that far back for a reason. I was squashed the whole flight.’

Others slammed the airlines and the design of the aircraft instead, with one person writing, ‘Why don’t you shift that energy towards the airline who designed these planes?’

Others slammed the airlines and the design of the aircraft instead. One person wrote, ‘They should make it so the seats can’t recline anymore when they’re packing us in like sardines.’

‘I feel like we should be directing our frustration at the airline, which puts these rows so close together just to cram more of us in there for more money,’ another user suggested.

‘Why don’t you shift that energy towards the airline who has designed and built these planes?’ asked someone else. ‘I will always recline. Hope you’re behind me.’

Just last month, a traveler went viral on Reddit after he revealed he was criticized by another passenger for reclining his seat.

The user, who goes by @SkyHawk3485, opened up about his experience in the Subreddit Am I the A**hole?, explaining that because he is a ‘big guy,’ weighing 350 pounds and measuring six-foot-three-inches, it’s hard for him to get comfortable on flights.

‘After the ding at 10,000 feet, I look back to make sure the person behind me doesn’t have a laptop out or anything, then slowly recline my seat back,’ he wrote.

The man, who said he was a frequent flier, added that he ‘paid for first class’ and that ‘people at the front usually don’t have any issues’ with him laying his seat back.

‘This flight was about four-and-a-half hours cross the US, and within 20 seconds of reclining back, dude taps me on the shoulder and says “Raise your damn seat,”’ he continued.

‘Genuinely surprised, I moved it up to appease the guy, but called over the flight attendant and told her that I intended to move it back after meal service and asked her to give the guy a heads up. She reassured me that’s my prerogative, so I didn’t worry about it.

Airplane etiquette has been a hot topic of conversation recently. Another thing debated is whether or not you should give up your seat so a family can sit together (stock image)

‘After meal service, did my routine and reclined the seat. Dude taps me again and says “I asked you to move your seat up, man.”

‘I turn and say, “You’re welcome to talk to the flight attendant about it.” He called her over, and she reiterated that I was entitled to recline my seat.’

The Reddit user said ‘things pretty much ended there,’ but added that the man ‘glared at him as they deplaned.’

‘I just wasn’t gonna sit up straight for four plus hours after paying for a ticket in First. Am I the a**hole?’ he concluded.

Airplane etiquette has certainly been a hot topic of conversation on social media recently.

Other users have gained attention online for discussing things like whether or not you should give up your seat so that a family could sit together, if it’s OK to take your shoes off, and whether or not parents should have to clean up after their kids on a plane – as well as the topic of ‘manspreading,’ which involves guys opening their legs so they could be more comfortable.
