Solo travelers reveal the most DANGEROUS cities to visit alone where muggings, shootings and prostitution are commonplace – but their picks might surprise you

As a warning to others, a raft of solo travelers have spoken out about the most dangerous cities they have visited, where muggings, shootings and prostitution are commonplace and going out after dark isn’t advised.

In a TikTok, traveler Conner McBee highlights that Tijuana in Mexico is widely considered one of the most dangerous cities in the world and in 2023, it was reported that 105 homicides were committed for every 100,000 residents.

He interviews a woman working at a local pharmacy, and she warns him that criminals can ‘beat you up’ and ‘take your things.’ She continues: ‘[They will] take everything from you until you’re barefoot.’

Another local Conner interviews in the street paints a similar picture of the place. He says: ‘They’ll take your s***, yeah. They’ll take it and then take everything you’ve got.’

As he walks through the city himself, Conner tells viewers: ‘There’s all these hookers walking towards me, like keeping eyes on me. Yeah, I definitely do not feel safe.’

In another TikTok, Courtney Leopard, who has been to more than 59 countries, reveals the cities she felt most unsafe in. First up, she elects Havana in Cuba

One viewer agreed with Conner’s summary of Tijuana, and he said that ‘all that happened to me there.’

Another commenter said that the city is ‘one place I will never step ground on’ due to its bad reputation.

In another TikTok, Courtney Leopard, who has been to more than 59 countries, reveals the cities she felt most unsafe in.

She highlights to viewers that ‘this is just a personal experience as a solo traveler’ and in no particular order.

First up, she elects Havana in Cuba as she said she ‘didn’t particularly feel that comfortable walking around alone’ and she witnessed a mugging in the street.

Recalling the incident, she said: ‘I was walking with this older American woman walking behind me and literally this guy tried to mug her and grab her bag when she was about 20ft behind me. So that really kind of put me off.’

Cebu City in the Philippines is another city where Courtney said she felt unsafe.

The traveler notes that she didn’t stay in Manilla, so she ‘doesn’t have anything to compare it to,’ but while she was in Cebu she said she was walking to the ferry port just as it was getting dark and she was getting catcalled.

‘It was just… not very comfortable for me,’ she explains.

YouTuber @littleshamelessviking also went about sharing his insights into Belize City, which he says is where ‘most violence’ happens in Belize

In a bid to help her followers, Jessica Ufuoma reveals in a TikTok the cities she felt unsafe while traveling alone as a black woman

She said she felt people in Turkey were ‘unfriendly and cold’ towards her and this was felt even more in Istanbul, while Rio is another place she wouldn’t return to alone

Lastly, Courtney’s other nomination is Thessaloniki on mainland Greece.

She tells viewers: ‘I feel like I can’t give a fair representation because I didn’t spend that much time there but I’m just going off based off what happened to me and that was that I got followed by a man from the bus stop to my hostel.

‘It made me so genuinely uncomfortable that I had to go into a shop and like explain to the woman that this guy was following me and she basically said that she knew him and that he dealt with substance abuse so I should avoid him.

‘It just wasn’t a great introduction to Thessaloniki.’

Recalling what happened while she was there she states: ‘People hardly helped me and they were giving me such nasty stares.

‘Turkey’s beautiful but please don’t go there by yourself.’

Other cities where Courtney said she didn’t feel comfortable included Rome and Venice.

The globetrotter adds: ‘Honestly, I love Italy but not just by myself. I went to Rome and Venice and and got such unsolicited attention from men asking to take me home for the night. [It was] very disrespectful and not cool at all.’

Finally, Courtney said Rio is another place she wouldn’t return to alone.

In one of her TikToks, Daniela Marie highlights some of the cities and towns in America which she found to be most dangerous as a solo traveler

She explains: ‘I wanted to feel safe in Rio so bad but sadly I didn’t.

‘Rio is great vibes though but I couldn’t help but feel unsafe there. [I] constantly had to watch over my shoulders and it just wasn’t the best experience.’

YouTuber @littleshamelessviking also went about sharing his insights into Belize City, which he says is where ‘most violence’ happens in Belize.

In his video, he explores the southern part of the city, which locals tell him to avoid.

While walking around the streets he meets a local man called Gatwick, who warns him he shouldn’t be wandering around the neighborhood alone.

When they get to a restaurant, Gatwick explains that he never leaves his home after 6pm as there are ten gangs in the area with murders a regular occurrence.

He estimates that there are five to six killings a day.

Summing up his trip around Belize City, @littleshamelessviking says: ‘I got a nice tour of the city… got to see some more rough areas also some nicer parts. I learned a lot about the city.’

In one of her TikToks, Daniela Marie highlights some of the cities and towns in America which she found to be most dangerous as a solo traveler.

Her nominations include Moriarty in New Mexico where people treated her ‘like an alien,’ Lubbock in Texas where she ‘got followed by a group of guys in the grocery parking lot,’ and Memphis in Tennessee where she almost got her car broken into and she got followed by a creepy guy on Beale Street.’
