Welcome to Robbie Travels and in today’s Spain travel vlog we will explore Museo del Greco and the Alcazar of Toledo.
Toledo the famous “city of three cultures”, very close to the country’s capital, scarcely 70 kilometres from Madrid and connected by high-speed train in a journey of around half an hour.
As soon as you set foot in the Spanish city of Toledo, your eye immediately settles upon the breathtaking Alcazar. With its thick stone walls, sharp spires, and strategic location at the city’s highest point, the Alcazar of Toledo is an impressive and imposing monument that looms over the city beneath it and houses a vast military museum and a regional library, and boasts some of the best views across Toledo.
Also I have taken a tour to El Greco Museum, which is packed with pieces from the famous artist. Housed in a former hospital with beautiful Moorish ceilings, the building is a veritable mecca for anyone who loves paintings and sculptures from the 16th and early 17th centuries.
You’ll find many of El Greco’s most famous works, all collected from churches and convents around the area. Most of the pieces are paintings, and you’ll have the opportunity to get closer to them than you would be able to in the Prado. The collection continues to grow as the government acquires more of El Greco’s work, yet it’s hardly as expansive as Madrid’s most famous museums.
