Teotihuacan was founded around 600 BC and lasted for around 800 years. At its height the city was home to more than 50,000 people. What’s curious about Teotihuacan is that scholars aren’t really sure WHO originally built it.
The civilization collapsed around the 7th century. The exact cause is unknown but evidence points to famine and political unrest. The longevity of Teotihuacan can be attributed to two main resources, the agave cactus and obsidian rocks. These humble resources helped the city thrive.
