The £232million superyacht that looks like a giant bird beak, with two helipads and a lazy river

Potential superyacht owners are sure to swoop on this £232million ($300million) vessel that looks like the beak of an enormous predatory bird.

Behold ‘Soar’, a striking 345ft-long vessel that its designers say was inspired by ‘the elegance of flight that large birds of prey carve in the skies when they soar’. Not only does the ‘fast cruiser’ have a pointy steel hull resembling a bird’s skull – the futuristic interior has more curves, inspired by birds’ skeletons.

David Weiss, of Designova, is the brain behind the vessel, which he said was developed in collaboration with racing and sailing yacht specialists and boasts ‘exciting speeds’.

Onboard, Soar is packed with ‘social living space’ as well as ‘unique sheltered alfresco havens throughout’, Weiss said.

Soar is packed with ‘social living space’ as well as ‘unique sheltered alfresco havens throughout’, Weiss said

The exterior features an entertainment area as well as two swimming pools and two helipads.

One helipad sits at the back, next to the flybridge (a steering station), while another is positioned at the front.

Yachters can even store a small electric quad copter in a special custom hangar below.

Also positioned on the front and the back deck are the yacht’s two pools.

At the front is a ‘private owners pool’ shaped like a figure of eight, with an ‘infinity flow system for exercise’.

It even has a ‘lazy river’ setting for children.

The second pool is positioned at the back of the yacht on the entertainment deck, next to an outdoor lounge area.

Inside is a main salon with ‘large swathes of glass offering unbroken views through the vessel’s interiors’.

This includes an owners’ suite as well as a meeting lounge, library, and the main salon.

As shown here, there’s a modern bar within the salon, plus sofas and coffee tables spread throughout a long living space featuring a spiral staircase at the end.

On the upper deck is the captain’s cabin, a sky lounge and sundeck with a wet bar.

The lower deck houses five staterooms, two owners’ staff rooms, crew cabins, an engine room and the chief engineer office.

Weiss said: ‘This vessel is envisaged as a fast cruiser and entertainment and social living space, with easy passages between decks’

Still a concept at present, Weiss said it is ‘available to be built and evolved further by a new client as of now’

Soar is able to accommodate 50 crew and up to 18 guests, with a cruising speed of 20 knots (23mph) and a maximum speed of 30 knots (34mph).

Weiss said: ‘This vessel is envisaged as a fast cruiser and entertainment and social living space, with easy passages between decks.’

A buyer with a keen interest in Formula One had been lined up to purchase Soar, but opted for another of Weiss’s designs, which means that the stunning superyacht is a concept at present.

However, Weiss said the eye-catching vessel is ‘available to be built and evolved further by a new client as of now’.

It could cost from £123million ($160million) to more than £232million ($300million), depending on the finished design, layout, materials, special features, and building company.

Weiss, who has spoken with yacht builders in Europe, estimated the build will take at least three years to complete – and possibly four depending on the final plans.

‘The slimmer volume of the vessel, compared to other vessels of this length, would have a significant potential to trim down the build time as well as the cost,’ he added.
