In Scotland allow us to draw your attention to the excellent Cairn café in Kilmacolm, just west of Glasgow, a very popular neighbourhood restaurant that’s beginning to get national recognition. MailOnline Travel stopped by during a Scottish road trip this year and we were blown away.

Owner David Armour said: ‘Our aim was always to create that “Daily Spot”, where the coffee, the service, the flavours were always on point. One of our longest-serving menu items is a perfect example of this. Affectionately known in-house as “The Black Pudding Stack”, we take a crispy morning roll, smother it top and bottom with our house-made chorizo jam and layer in North Ayrshire Black Pudding topped with a fried egg. It’s a flavour bomb – and the troops love it!’ Visit cairn-kilma.com. Click-and-collect only.

One of London’s finest and most innovative wine bars – Vagabond (pictured) – now delivers nationwide

DRINKS

We know that for many of you, this is the business end of the feature.

And you’ll be extremely pleased to hear that some of Britain’s most talented cocktail makers and wine experts are distributing top-end beverages.

Let’s start with one of London’s finest and most innovative wine bars – Vagabond.

MailOnline Travel has long been a fan of its bars, where you can try up to 100 wines, grouped by style, by the glass. Now it has an online shop where you can buy ‘crisp whites’, ‘aromatic whites’, ‘elegant’ reds and more, by the bottle.

It even has its own resident ‘wine genius’, Colin. You can message him on the site’s ‘Ask Colin’ microsite for a more tailored quaffing service. Vagabond’s delivery radius is nationwide.

Another personal wine service available nationwide can be found via Oranj, a natural wine, art and music platform.

It has teamed up with Dominic Smith, sommelier from Michelin-starred Shoreditch restaurant Clove Club, to curate a ‘December Sommelier Box’, which contains five hard-to-find natural wines from small producers, which are delivered with a specially commissioned piece of art, inspired by the wines, and a DJ set to listen to whilst drinking. Visit oranj.co.uk.

Also delivering nationwide is superb London wine bar/shop/restaurant outfit Salon. It started as a pop-up cheese shop in Brixton’s Market Row, then became a fully functioning restaurant, with a wine bar installed in 2016.

In 2017 it installed a wine shop next door, specialising in low-intervention, organic and biodynamic wines. MailOnline Travel ordered its £120 ‘strictly bangers’ box of six bottles and our socks were knocked off. Delivery is to within two miles of the restaurant.

And the standards stay that way with Shop Cuvee, an extraordinary one-stop-shop for food and drink established during lockdown around the corner in Highbury, London, from the restaurant mothership, Top Cuvee.

It offers amazing bottled cocktails courtesy of renowned cocktail maestro and co-owner Max Venning, who is also the co-founder of legendary bar Three Sheets, currently ranked the world’s 34th best bar.

Impressed? We are too.

But there’s more still.

Shop Cuvee’s wine offering also hits the mark in a big way, with bottles like Tillingham’s zippy Col ’19 white and Chin Chin Vinho Verde from northern Portugal.
