Flights around the festive period can be incredibly expensive, but this new tool could help travellers save their hard-earned cash.
Travel site Kayak has launched a new service to help holidaymakers find the best time to travel to their chosen destination over Christmastime and New Year.
In creating the ‘Best Time to Travel Christmas and New Year’ tool, Kayak analysed more than 8,000 routes globally and used historical data specific to the festive season to recommend the best time to book a flight at the most affordable price – with one price-cutting example from Kayak offering a saving of 40 per cent.
Using predictive data and easy-to-read price graphs, the tool allows travellers to compare prices day-by-day to find the most wallet-friendly dates to travel.
It also reveals how many days in advance travellers should book to get the best prices for their trip.

To use the tool, travellers can simply type in their desired destination and travel period for a custom recommendation of when to fly.
For example, Kayak reveals if a traveller was planning a four-day trip from London to Brussels over Christmas, the best time to travel would be on Christmas Eve, returning on December 27.
In addition, the travel site recommends booking those flights 52 days in advance to get the ‘absolute cheapest’ prices, based on statistics from 2022, which saw travellers save up to 13 per cent on flights.
Those looking for some winter sun still have plenty of time to book flights from London to Bangkok, Thailand, as the best deals can be found 21 days before travel, with savings of up to 40 per cent on flight costs.
The best time to travel to Bangkok for a 14-day trip is from December 12, returning on Christmas Day.

For those who have missed the booking window for the best deals, Kayak recommends travellers set up Price Alerts to track flight prices and book once they see a price that suits them.

It comes after Kayak launched a new tool for finding cheap five-star hotel stays around the world.
