Travel agency offers money back guarantee if it rains during your holiday

Amount handed back to the customer depends on the total cost of the holiday

A travel agency in Sweden is offering a money back guarantee if it rains on your holiday.

TUI Sweden has introduced what it calls their ‘weather guarantee’ for those who are worried about a downpour affecting their travel experience.

Spanish company Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has been offering a ‘Good Weather Guarantee’ since 2007, so that guests can benefit from an extra night of accommodation for each day of rain that they experience on their stay.

TUI Sweden customers have the option to buy the guarantee at the time of booking, with the cost varying according to the weather forecast for the hotel’s location, which is provided by Sensible Weather.

An anticipated rainfall of 1.5mm per hour or more, lasting for at least two hours, automatically triggers the guarantee so that a compensation payment is available on the same day.

The amount handed back to the customer depends on the total cost of the holiday.

‘We can’t influence the weather at our destinations, but with this weather guarantee, our customers can have a fun holiday even if it rains,’ said Tommy Serban, Commercial Director of TUI Nordic.

He noted that since compensation is paid instantly, tourists will be able to spend the money on other activities, such as going shopping or visiting museums.

For customers booking a combined trip with TUI to selected destinations, the option is available from October.

It comes as Storm Babet has caused devastation across the UK.

The Isle of Wight was today warned to prepare for further flooding after many roads were left underwater by more than three inches of rain that fell overnight.

Motorists had to be rescued from cars in 3ft of water and residents claimed the island ‘appeared to have sunk’ ahead of further downpours due tomorrow.

The Met Office has now issued a new eight-hour yellow rain warning for Hampshire and Sussex tomorrow, running from 4am until 12pm. Between 0.8 inches and 1.2 inches could fall within three to six hours, and up to 1.6 inches overall.
