Two pandas shipped from China to a zoo in Washington DC were captured on adorable video footage enjoying life in their new home.
Bao Li and Qing Bao, the pair of three-year-old giant pandas, got to participate in playtime at Washington’s National Zoo in preparation for their official debut in January after they arrived in the country from Beijing earlier this month in the latest occurrence of China’s so-called ‘panda diplomacy.’
And the lovable bears even got to experience snowfall for the very first time.
The heartwarming video footage captured one of the pandas jumping off a platform in the enclosure before excitedly trotting toward an enrichment toy – a toy that encourages them to play while using their natural behavior to help them feel more at home.
Video then showed him hysterically prancing around the toy and jumping up and down on two paws before trotting away.
Footage at a closer angle captured the pandas doing somersaults under the trees with their toys in hand as they rolled around through the fallen leaves – seemingly making themselves right at home.
The endearing animals snacked on carrots, bamboo and apples and joyously played in falling snowflakes during the state’s first real taste of winter Friday morning after the ‘bomb cyclone’ hit areas in the East Coast – leaving behind storms and light snowfall.
Their arrival marked a rare diplomatic success between the US and China after relations between the two global powers deteriorated in recent years following tensions over trade and geopolitics.
