This is the jaw-dropping moment a base jumper leaped off the roof of a car travelling across a bridge in Brazil to parachute into the bay below.

Gabriel Amorim Reis was filmed on a 360-degree action camera as he clambered on top of the moving car on the Rio Niterói Bridge, which is 236ft tall at its highest point.

The adrenaline junkie had to judge perfectly the moment he leapt from the car as every hundred yards there was a street light pole on the 8.25-mile-long structure.

Footage shows Reis and his friend, who is filming, holding onto the roof rack of the Mitsubishi SUV before they stand on the moving vehicle.

He waits for the right moment to leap from the bridge, making sure to avoid smashing into the lamp posts.

Once airborne, Reis holds off for a moment until he is clear of the bridge before releasing his parachute to slow his descent into the waters of Guanabara Bay, south-east Brazil.
