We’re flight attendants – and here’s how we meal prep for FOUR-DAY trips so we can save a fortune by avoiding overpriced airport food

If you think making your office lunch is tricky, then think again.

A fleet of pilots and flight attendants have revealed how they have to prepare meals for up to four days in a row during multi-leg trips as they don’t know when they will get chance to eat on the go, and airport food is too expensive.

Recently qualified Southwest Airlines flight attendant Danie B reveals in a TikTok that she prepares her own meals as she doesn’t want to fork out $30 a time on airport food, especially after paying for her cabin crew training.

Giving viewers a sneak peek of one of her menus, she films herself rustling up a pasta salad, pepper steak and rice, and gilled chicken with yellow rice and roasted potatoes.

One viewer asked how she keeps all of the food refrigerated while she is in the air or while traveling, to which she replied: ‘Initially I used ice packs but I’ve learned it’s best to use Ziploc bags of ice.

‘It keeps the items colder AND you can always refill at ice machine.’

In another TikTok, pilot Lily Roberts reveals what she made for a four-day meal prep.

For breakfast she packed two egg bites per day, an apple and cereal into her carry on bag, while for lunch she opted for a daily dose of beef, vegetable and barley soup.

For dinners, she loaded four Ziploc bags up with turkey tacos, pasta and broccoli.

Meanwhile for snacks she packed a selection of oranges, cheese crackers and mixed nuts.

Like Danie B, she told inquisitive viewers that she keeps her food cold on the plane by using refillable ice packs.

Then to heat the food up, she generally uses hotel microwaves but if she is working long hours, she will eat some things cold and the ‘turkey taco stuff is fine cold.’

Pilot and TikToker @AlmostCaptainMorgan reveals in a clip that she decided to start prepping her own meals because she was sick of gorging on unhealthy and expensive fast food at the airport.

After changing her habits, she showcases what she purchased at Costco for ‘three days of food.’

Firstly, she says she wanted some ‘go to snacks’ to keep with her in the flight deck in case she gets ‘hungry in the middle of a flight.’

To quell any hunger pangs, the aviator opted for some coconut chips, a bag of dark chocolate coconut minis, chocolate for the crew and hazelnut chocolate filled crepes.

For her breakfasts, she said she wanted something ‘quick and easy’ so she plumped for pre-made turkey sausage and cheese egg bites.

She explains in the TikTok that normally she would meal prep her lunches and dinners but she was flying the next day and didn’t have time so she went to the pre-made food section of Costco and got chicken street tacos which came ‘highly recommended,’ along with some ground beef stuffed peppers.

He tells viewers: ‘I made two homemade salads. I like sliced apples [and I] keep peanut butter on the side.’

Other ingredients he packs include fresh vegetables, some hummus, a Ziploc bag  filled with ‘delicious’ chicken, two packs of yogurt, pickles, and a few cheese sticks.

Like the ladies, he uses refillable ice packs to keep everything cool while he is on the go. As well as saving money, he says his treat-loaded bag keeps him full on the job.

In a TikTok, flight attendant @jetsettinjilly reveals her reasoning for making her own meals.

She explains in overlaid captions: ‘Not all flight attendants meal prep, especially flight attendants that commute to work (I don’t commute so it’s easier for me).

‘But I don’t like not knowing when, where or if I’ll eat. Usually four leg days mean 12 to 14 hours with no time to sit and eat.

‘If I don’t pack food I’ll be eating plane snacks all day.

‘My coworkers and passengers don’t want me hangry.’

In terms of liquids, @jetsettinjilly says she always keeps a water bottle on her while traveling as ‘dehydration makes the day that much harder.’
