We’re identical twins and both work as flight attendants together – this is how plane passengers react when they realise there are two of us

It’s not every day passengers board a flight and are greeted by two of what appears to be the same person – but for one set of identical twins, it’s just another day on the job.

Gabriel and Giuseppe, both 24, work as flight attendants for Wizz Air, and when they occasionally find themselves rostered on the same aircraft, many passengers hilariously find themselves seeing double.

Originally from Sicily, the twins moved to the UK in 2019 to chase a shared dream of becoming air pilots.

But before they move up to the cockpit, they’ve been busy making their mark in the cabin.

The brothers started as crew members at Wizz Air in 2022, and have quickly risen through the ranks to become respected trainers for both new and experienced cabin crew.

Their love of aviation started at a ‘very early age’, with nostalgic photos showing the pair as young boys building and playing with paper planes together.

Gabriel quipped: ‘To be as specific as possible, it wasn’t just a paper plane, it was a Boeing 747.’

Since then, the brothers, who describe their sibling dynamic as more being ‘best friends,’ have encouraged each other all the way until they made the decision to actually go into the aviation industry.

Another factor that sparked their passion for flying from a young age was the introduction of the first direct flight from Sicily to Poland, where their mother is from.

The pair recalled how they had to regularly endure gruelling coach journeys throughout their childhood, which they said took ‘about two days’ in total.

Gabriel said: ‘Up until 2020, actually 2015 or something, there were no direct flights from Sicily to Poland, so it was this very long journey by bus.

‘When we started to fly from Catania, which is more or less close to our hometown, to Poland, we were super happy. I remember catching those flights when we were children, and, you know, it was amazing.’

Since then, the brothers have remained inseparable in their journey through the skies.

Gabriel continued: ‘We started together. We’ve completed our training together. All of our career was basically parallel.

‘I really enjoy working with my brother because I know I can completely trust him. You know, he’s got the same level of experience and knowledge that I do.

‘So working with my brother is more or less like having an extension of myself helping me out with all the tasks.’

Though they don’t often get scheduled to work on the same flights, when they do happen to get assigned the same route, it sparks priceless reactions from passengers.

Gabriel remembers one particularly funny moment when both were assigned to work the front of the cabin.

He said: ‘I can’t remember where we’re flying, but the two of us were scheduled to operate a flight or at the front.

‘We’ve got different cabin crew seats along the cabin, and by coincidence, the two of us were at the front in that day.

‘So you could imagine the passengers’ reactions as they come on board and they see the two of us together, and they’re like, “Am I seeing double?”‘

Gabriel added: ‘It has happened a few times that someone wanted to take some photos with us.’

And their bond goes beyond appearance, as they’ve developed a knack for communicating with one another during flights without saying a word – especially if a troublesome passenger is on board.

They said: ‘I think we also got to a point in which we can basically communicate without really saying anything. It’s like “the nod” telepathy. We can definitely read the air.’

Both brothers aim to earn their full pilot licences in the next few years, with Giuseppe (right) already ticking off the first certification, though they say time spent in the cabin has been invaluable

The twins’ eyes are now fixed on the future, as they both aim to earn their full pilot licences in the next few years, with Giuseppe already having ticked off the first certification.

But they say time spent in the cabin has been invaluable.

They said: ‘We always wanted to see how it’s like to be on the other side of the flight deck door and to experience aviation from a 360 degree point of view.’

Until they progress to Wizz Air’s cockpit, the twins are dedicated to providing a stellar service to travellers as cabin crew – and collecting a few double-takes and selfies along the way.
