White House replica in California goes on sale for $38.9 MILLION

Now is your chance to live like the president — so long as you’re willing to pay nearly $40million.

A replica of the White House, dubbed the ‘Western White House,’ in Hillsborough, California is on sale for $38.9million.

The stunning 24,350-square-foot property boasts 11 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, with a number of areas to entertain guests — including its own ‘East Room’ with a fireplace and an ‘Oval Office’ with the same dimensions as the real one.

The home sits on about three acres, with its own White House Rose Garden, swimming pool and pavilion.

It also offers a theater room, a wine cellar and even staff quarters.

One of the many rooms in the estate is an Oval Office with the same dimensions as the real thing

The so-called Western White House, located about 20 miles outside of San Francisco, has a storied history.

It was commissioned by George Randolph Hearst — the eldest son of media mogul William Randolph Hearst who reportedly aspired to one day be president of the United States — and was designed by Julia Morgan, California’s first female architect, in 1930.

The estate changed hands amongst America’s elite ever since, and was purchased by real estate investor Mehrdad Elie and his wife Neda in October 2022 for $15million.

The couple purchased the property from Shailesh Mehta, the former CEO of credit-card issuer Providian Financial, and continue to live across the street.

Mehrdad told the Wall Street Journal he and Neda were drawn to the Western White House of its privacy and abundance of light.

The property is set back from the road and is shielded from view by a creek and tall hedges.

The property was first built by architect Julia Morgan in 1930 for George Randolph Hearst, the eldest son of media mogul William Randolph Hearst

There are also 14 bathrooms in the house for easy convenience — nine full bathrooms like the one seen here and five half-bathrooms

Shortly after purchasing the property, the Elies added a new roof and all new bathrooms — nine full bathrooms and five half-bathrooms.

They also added amenities like a wine cellar, a laundry room and rooms for staff members.

The third floor also features a movie theater with seven vibrating SoundShaker seats.

‘When you’re watching Top Gun, you feel like you’re sitting next to the pilot,’ Mehrdad said of the theater.

That floor also features a wet bar, playroom and access to a roughly 1,500-square-foot roof deck.

The historic property has maintained its Colonial-style charm while being updated to more modern standards

The couple told the Wall Street Journal they put about $6million worth of renovations into the home

Ultimately, the wealthy couple decided the house was too big for their family

Listing agent Alex Buljan said the home’s size is a rarity in the California city

Listing agent Alex Buljan, of real estate agency Compass, said the home is a rarity in the California city known for its dining and golf clubs.

‘It’s one of maybe five home in Hillsborough with this level of exclusivity and historical significance,’ he told the Journal, adding that an international buyer may be drawn to the idea of owning a White House replica.

Buljan said the average lot size in town is just about a half-acre and properties that size tend to fetch between $3million to $5million, while larger lots in prime locations can get $12million or more.

In May, the median sales price in Hillsborough was $4.7million, down more than 30 percent from the year prior, according to data from Redfin.
