Would you ever ‘rawdog’ a flight? Passengers leave people horrified after bragging about bizarre act on long-haul trips

A bizarre new travel trend has emerged in the form of a grueling way to pass time on flights.

The practice known as ‘rawdogging’ or sometimes ‘barebacking,’ means consuming no music, movies, or any other form of entertainment except for the basic flight maps or flight data screens on your seatback.

Taking it to greater extremes, some will also claim to forgo food and drink for the duration of the journey.

Dozens of clips have surfaced on TikTok, showing passengers jumping on the trend.

Many videos show travelers with blank expressions as they stare into space.

Meanwhile, overlaid captions brag about them completing the challenge.

Creator @westwashere has uploaded several TikToks showing himself ‘barebacking.’

In one clip, he challenges his followers to follow suit.

He wrote in the overlaid caption: ‘Is someone gonna match my freak? (go the whole 10 hours flight, not moving from my chair, only watching the maps and airspeed.’

In other TikToks, he reveals how he ‘survived’ long-haul flights only watching the map and windspeed.

Creator @cookestraveltok revealed in one of her TikToks how her mom was a fan of rawdogging.

She explains in an overlaid caption accompanying a clip of her mom on a flight: ‘My mom’s beige flag is that she rawdogs every flight, no matter how long.

‘This is her on a nine-hour flight. No iPad. No headphones. No book. At least she’s comfy! Go Girl.’

The clip has since garnered more than eight million views from bemused TikTok viewers.

Dalton Roe said he took the trend one step further by cutting food out of the equation

Meanwhile another creator @oiwudini set a new personal best on a flight by rawdogging for seven hours with ‘no headphones, no movie, no water, nothing.’

Some commenters said they followed a similar routine on flights, with one writing: ‘This is me LMFAOO. I can’t focus on anything like a book or a movie so I just sit there and stare.’

Others said that they admired the mom’s mental strength, while some expressed horror at the prospect of doing nothing for a long period of time.

One restless commenter mused in response to the clip: ‘Like how? I Play Candy Crush while listening to an audiobook and watching a movie (subtitles on).’

An equally astounded viewer said: ‘HOW? I need my iPad full of an entire series and at least three different movies in case I change my mind.’

And echoing similar sentiments, one horrified commenter wrote: ‘This is literally one of my biggest fears – getting on an airplane for a long flight without headphones? I can’t even go to the store without them. WHAT?’

Dalton Roe said he took the trend one step further by cutting food out of the equation.

He explained in his TikTok caption: ‘Just rawdogged a flight from Orlando to LA. No water, no snacks, no music or entertainment. Seat fully upright. The power of the mind has no limits. Stay hard.’

One of Dalton’s fans simply replied ‘respect.’

Meanwhile, another creator @oiwudini said he set a new personal best on a flight by rawdogging for seven hours with ‘no headphones, no movie, no water, nothing.’

He concluded: ‘Incredible. The power of my mind knows no bounds.’
