YouTuber with claustrophobia explores 12 inch-wide cave network

A man who is frightened of enclosed spaces decided to tackle his fear head-on by spending five hours wriggling his way through a cave network that was 12in wide at points.

Ally Law, 26, from Southampton, was exploring a hilly area in Bangor, North Wales with his pal Jack Jerrard, 30, when the pair discovered a hole in the side of a hill.

After seeing the tiny opening, the content creators set themselves a ‘claustrophobia challenge’ in which they explored the cave after squeezing their way inside.

As they embarked upon their challenge, which Ally claims was about ‘overcoming a fear’, they admit they ‘got panicky’ as they squeezed their bodies through spaces as narrow as 30cm.

The pals, who filmed their challenge throughout the five-hour exploration of the cave, have now racked up more than 100,000 views on YouTube.

Content creator Ally recalled feeling frightened at points where he was wedged into narrow parts of the cave with hardly any visibility.

He said: ‘At one point I was wedged in pretty hard and it was touching my back and belly. My neck was aching as well because I had to keep my head to the side because it wouldn’t fit.

‘We started to think we might have to head back but it’s a good job we didn’t because we were in there for five hours anyway.

‘You can’t see anything down there without a torch on. It’s a different level of darkness. Even with light you lose all awareness of whether you’re going down or up. It throws all your perception out.

During the exploration of the cave Ally and Jack got themselves stuck in some incredibly tight spaces

‘We didn’t know it would come out the other side. We figured if we went deep into it we’d be able to get out the same way if the worst came to worst.

‘I know it’s probably not the best motto to have but if you can get in you can probably get out.’

In the video, the pair can be seen declaring themselves ‘stupid’ as they get wedged into a tiny space, before they manage to claw themselves back to freedom and find another route.

One clip shows Ally realising the danger he may have put himself in as he says: ‘I’m regretting doing this, this is horrible.’

After completing his challenge Ally said: ‘It felt amazing when we got out. You’d never think you could taste fresh air but it tastes and you can feel it. Being able to breathe fresh air was amazing.

Ally admitted he and Jack had no idea if there was a route out of the cave once they began exploring

Ally and Jack explored the cave for a total of five hours hoping to find the exit, with the belief that if there was no way out, they could head back the way they had come

Since Ally (pictured) uploaded the video to his YouTube channel, it has racked up more than 100,000 views

Ally admitted he has always had a fear of enclosed spaces and decided to try and overcome it with the exploration

As Ally and Jack managed to get out, they said they could not explain the relief of once again being able to breathe fresh air

Content creator Ally admitted he knew his exploration was ‘dangerous’ but said he and Jack wouldn’t have taken on the challenge if they thought they were at risk of death

‘I know it’s not safe and there’s dangers of it but we wouldn’t do anything where we think we’d die or get stuck.’

His ‘cheap’ torch batteries even failed in the pitch-black shaft, leaving them with only one headtorch between the pair until they luckily began working again.

Ally says he didn’t realise how many people were freaked out by tight spaces until he saw the reaction to his video.

One said: ‘I couldn’t think of anything worse.’

A second said: ‘You could never give me anything to do this. I choose life.’

A third joked: ‘Respect to you guys, you really do have balls of steel. I thought I’d get in the spirit and crawl under my bed to watch it. That was enough for me.’

A fourth said: ‘I feel claustrophobic watching this! fair play man.’
