Japan Airlines has unveiled its new top-tier cabins – with first-class passengers enjoying a double-bed in their ‘exclusive’ suite in the skies.
It’s part of a wider reveal of the new interiors of the Japanese carrier’s new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, which will become the airline’s new flagship aircraft for international service.
It’s expected to launch on the route between Tokyo (HND) and New York (JFK) before the end of the year.
Japan Airlines (JAL), which was voted the world’s fifth-best airline in this year’s ‘Oscars of Aviation’, says the A350-1000’s interior has been designed ‘to immerse customers in the elegance of Japanese aesthetics and envelop them in tranquillity, providing a serene ambience that encapsulates the beauty of Japan’.
It says that the new first class and business class cabins are ‘spacious, yet fully-private environments’.

First-class passengers can enjoy a ‘stress-free’ environment inside one of six luxury suites, which feature privacy doors, as renderings reveal. ‘Upon closing your door, the large and fully private space will feel like you have entered a luxury hotel room,’ says JAL.
The new seats can be reconfigured as a sofa, a single bed or a double bed, the airline notes, and jackets can be hung up in the suite’s private wardrobes.
There’s also a ‘headphone-free stereo with built-in headrest speakers’, so passengers can watch movies without headphones.

Like in first class, business class suites are equipped with doors for added privacy. Between seats, there are ‘electric privacy partitions’, which can be rolled up or down, depending on whether travellers are seated next to travelling companions.
Seats can be extended into ‘bed mode’ with a length of around 198cm (78in) and ‘ample space at the foot area’. It’s said to create a ‘comfortable sleeping experience with cushioning structures that evenly distribute body pressure’.
Echoing first class, business class also features a wardrobe space for hanging up clothing and a headphone-free stereo.

First and business-class passengers have access to complimentary loungewear and new amenity kits for top-tier passengers that have been designed by the Japanese lifestyle brand Heralbony.
JAL has also revealed what passengers can expect from its new premium economy and economy cabins. The former, premium economy, features seats with electrically operated reclining functions and privacy partitions ‘to greatly enhance each individual space’.
The economy seat – with JAL winning the prize for ‘best economy seat at this year’s Skytrax Awards – is said to offer ‘enhanced’ legroom and comfort. It also boasts ‘the largest 13in 4K monitor in its class’, says JAL.
