Key West Florida travel tips. Advice from other tourists and people who live there.

Going to Key West, Florida? Want some advice? Bring your wallet, your sunscreen, and some party shoes. You’re going to have a blast.

In the daylight you can visit the beaches. Some people think that there are no beaches in Key West. Those people are 100% incorrect. The beaches are fantastic. Plus they are free and well cared for. The people saying there are no beaches didn’t get far enough away from the cruise ship. (grin)

You can also visit the museums, the Little White House, Ernest Hemingway’s house, and a few others. All of it is interesting and worthy of your time.

There are some world class art galleries on Duval. Also on Duval you will find all kinds of other shopping. There are amazing restaurants, clubs, live music venues, and there are even two different drag shows on Duval. It doesn’t usually get rolling until around lunch time. Then “it’s on” until after midnight. It’s amazing. Touristy, yes. But it’s cool and there is no drama of any kind. This is an older more affluent crowd and therefore no one is causing issues. Everyone is laid back and having a good time.

The lodging is very expensive “in-season.” You can travel to Key West in the summer and save money on the cost of the travel and lodging. Plus, there isn’t as much traffic congestion to deal with in the “off season” or summertime.

We didn’t think that Key West would be a good fit for families with young kids but to each their own. We did see families with young kids everywhere, the whole time we were there. But we felt like this was more of an adult friendly destination.

We were there for three months because of a traveling medical assignment. We rented an apartment on White street. The apartment was older and very expensive like everything is in Key West. It was an older one bedroom unit that was billed as two because they had closed in part of a porch to make a second room. There was one bathroom. The landlord was really nice and became a friend so we enjoyed our stay. The best part was the apartment was three blocks from the Atlantic ocean. (Location, location, location!) That wasn’t hard to get used to at all.

We hope you enjoy this video as much as we enjoyed reliving the moments. We are going to make other videos about the tourist destinations that we are located near during travel assignments. We will get better at this.
