‘Oh – you’re going north? This is the real Ibiza – so peaceful and beautiful, but best of all – no crazy clubbing people!’, said our taxi driver, as he picked us up from the airport. He had even more superlatives as we turned into the stunning Cala San Miguel Resort : ‘You’ll have a wonderful, relaxing time here!’
He wasn’t wrong. Carved into rugged cliffs overlooking a small white sand cove, the five star adults-only Curio Collection by Hilton resort is an oasis of calm and a world away from the all-night party scene the island has become synonymous with.
The hotel itself is an airy, multi-tiered structure dotted with intimate nooks and terraces and a cool minimalist ecru décor that compliments the tranquillity of its setting. There are 292 rooms – some with private pools – all designed to embody the essence of Ibiza’s natural beauty with light-filled interiors and finishes inspired by the island’s traditional architecture.
With three pools, all flanked by cloud-soft double sunbeds, and a private beach club with easy access to the sea and wider cove, there are plenty of options to start unwinding – all with an intimate boutique feel.

Guests are encouraged to connect with nature, focus on their wellness and slow their pace for a ‘regenerative experience’, with a nod to the island’s more spiritual ‘hippy’ roots. Something we were more than happy to succumb to.
A programme of complimentary experiences has been designed by the hotel team to help connect with Ibiza’s natural and cultural heritage, from guided hikes to Torre des Molar – an 18th-century watchtower, sunrise yoga overlooking the sea and sound healing using Tibetan bowls, crystal bowls and drums to painting workshops and traditional Ibizan herbal liqueur experiences.

At the heart of relaxation options is the resort’s Mare Spa, which has collaborated with Natura Bissé, the luxury Spanish skincare brand. The spa menu includes a range of massages where the practitioner first discusses your specific needs and a range of signature wellness experiences including the intriguingly-named Wrap Remix, Rebirth ritual and Citrus Drench Body Ritual.
For us, the highlight of the stay was a spectacular sunset cruise, provided in partnership with the hotel and De Antonio Yachts. The two-hour experience showcased the untouched northern coastline, caves that cannot be seen by foot, and offered the opportunity to really appreciate the crystal clear azure waters (with a cooler of drinks on hand!).

But by far the most magical moment was pulling into the famous Cala Benirras cove where we watched the sun transform into a deep red disc and slowly lower into the horizon, set to the beat of hippy drums on the beach behind us. It was a simply breath-taking experience.
Back on land, our favourite hang-out spot was the hotel’s Cala San Miguel Beach House, which offers relaxed beachfront dining and a delightful sunbed cocktail service, all set to a back drop of a DJ playing low key chilled music. The staff there – and across the hotel in general – bent over backwards to make sure our needs were met.
The quality of the food on offer cannot be understated – the crispy calamari, fresh juicy red tomato salad with a gazpacho-style sauce and local seafood rice dishes were our favourite lunch options – so much so we had the same two days running!

Away from the Beach House there are six other dining areas to choose from, offering Mediterranean favourites, a raw bar, Italian and Asian dishes. Our favourite for evening was the romantic new Paseo Steak House where we dined on a delicious Chateaubriand, sat on an outdoor terrace enjoying the balmy night and stunning views as the sun went down behind the cliffs.
Cala San Miguel Ibiza Resort prides itself in its dedication to preserving this special corner of the island, and providing guests a gateway to the true essence of north Ibiza – and it shows. If it’s mega-clubs with superstar DJs you’re after, this is not your spot. But if you’re looking for effortless laid-back luxury, being at one with nature and the chance to properly wind-down – Cala San Miguel Ibiza Resort is a little slice of heaven.
